Crafting a timeless Florentine kitchen in Berkshire
Kitchen | ClassicLayered design and timeless balance
The Florentine kitchen by Charles Yorke is defined by its architectural presence and refined detailing. Layered cabinetry and balanced proportions create depth and interest, while a soft painted palette and considered finishes bring warmth and cohesion. A European oak island, finished with a rich patina, introduces texture and contrast - grounding the scheme with natural character. The result is a composed, characterful space that feels both timeless and distinctive.
Quiet luxury at the heart of the home
This Florentine kitchen by Charles Yorke is shaped by light, proportion and a quiet sense of ease. A generous roof lantern draws daylight deep into the space, illuminating the soft painted cabinetry and revealing the finer layers of craftsmanship throughout.
Architectural detailing plays a defining role, with elegant pilasters introducing rhythm and structure to the cabinetry. These vertical elements frame each section with a sense of order, lending the kitchen a furniture-like quality that feels both refined and grounded. Above, a gently shaped cornice softens the transition to the ceiling, adding a subtle decorative note that enhances the classical influence without overwhelming the space.
At its centre, the European oak island with a patinated finish brings warmth and texture, its natural grain offering a quiet contrast to the crisp stone surface. The result is a kitchen that feels composed and harmonious – where considered detailing and material richness come together in a space designed to be lived in and enjoyed.
Functionality is seamlessly integrated within the design. Appliances are discreetly housed, with Miele ovens set cleanly into the cabinetry, maintaining the integrity of the overall aesthetic. At the sink, a Shaws Bradshaw undermount sink is paired with a patinated brass Quooker boiling water tap and a matching Armac Martin handle – combining practicality with a consistent, refined material language.
A gentle layering of texture and light
Subtle textural details add further depth. Reeded privacy glass is introduced within the cabinetry, working in harmony with European oak reeded panels to the open display sections. This pairing creates a gentle interplay of light and shadow, offering moments of visual interest while maintaining a sense of softness and cohesion across the scheme.

Location and Heritage
Located within the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the design subtly reflects the area’s rich architectural heritage. Much of the local vernacular is rooted in Georgian and early Victorian architecture, where symmetry, proportion and classical detailing are key. This influence is echoed in the kitchen’s composition – through the use of pilasters, balanced cabinetry and a shaped cornice – bringing a quiet sense of order and refinement. The result is a space that feels contextually grounded, drawing on established architectural language while remaining entirely suited to contemporary living.
Walk-In Pantry, Thoughtfully Designed
Tucked discreetly beyond the main kitchen, the walk-in pantry extends the same level of craftsmanship and consideration into a more functional setting. Framed in a deeper painted tone, the cabinetry creates a sense of intimacy, while open shelving introduces both practicality and visual rhythm.
European oak drawer fronts, softly patinated and labelled with purpose, bring warmth and a sense of order – transforming everyday storage into something both intuitive and characterful. The vertical panelling to the back adds subtle texture, enhanced by integrated lighting that gently highlights each shelf and its contents.
Designed to support daily life without compromising on detail, the pantry balances utility with refinement – ensuring that even the most practical spaces feel cohesive, considered, and quietly elevated.
Living Space, Seamlessly Connected
Extending beyond the kitchen, the space opens into a relaxed living and dining area designed for both everyday comfort and effortless entertaining. A soft, cohesive palette carries through, creating a natural flow between zones while allowing each area to retain its own identity.
At the far end, bespoke cabinetry in a deeper painted tone frames the room, with arched alcoves introducing a gentle architectural rhythm. These curated display spaces bring warmth and personality, softly lit to highlight objects and materials, while grounding the room with a sense of symmetry and balance.
Closer to the kitchen, lighter cabinetry with integrated lighting continues the narrative of craftsmanship, offering both storage and display in equal measure. The transition between spaces feels considered and intuitive – linking cooking, dining and relaxation into one harmonious environment.
“We couldn’t be happier with our Charles Yorke kitchen. Every detail is beautifully crafted and the team worked tirelessly and flexibly to capture every detail of the brief - from design to install the team were excellent. Knowing the kitchen is handmade in the UK by craftsmen, and bespoke, makes our home feel even more special.”

Project Details
The Englemere range is a refined take on classic framed cabinetry, combining traditional craftsmanship with a clean, architectural feel. Subtle mouldings, balanced proportions and integrated functionality create a timeless design suited to modern living.
The materials throughout the project have been carefully selected to balance beauty and performance. Cabinetry is crafted from a combination of European oak, both solid and veneered, finished in client colour matched limed Oak. Painted elements are produced using premium-grade hardwood and specialist stable substrates, ensuring a flawless painted finish and long-term durability.
The palette pairs Little Greene Slaked Lime Mid (149) to the outer kitchen with a client-specific White Limed Oak finish to the island, creating a soft contrast between painted and natural timber. In the adjoining spaces, Farrow & Ball Slipper Satin is used in the utility, with Farrow & Ball Treron in the pantry, adding depth and variation. Worksurfaces are finished in Genini Calacatta Gold Superior, introducing a refined stone element that ties the scheme together.
The finishing touches bring cohesion and depth to the scheme, with carefully selected hardware in dark brushed brass adding warmth and contrast to the softer painted tones. The H&H Greenwich knobs and pull handles introduce a consistent, understated detail throughout, their refined profile complementing the cabinetry without distraction.
